Reasons why your dog might need a cool coat
Reason #1: Dogs aren’t as efficient at cooling themselves as we are. A dog cool coat from Made by De can help! Just soak in water, wring out the extra, and put on your dog for hours of cooling.
Dogs don't cool themselves as well as people.
Most dog parents know that dogs can't cool themselves as efficiently as people can. Because of this, overheating or even heatstroke can be a problem. Fortunately, there are ways we can help. One of those ways is to use a dog cool coat.
Since they can't depend on sweating to cool off, dogs often find other ways to get comfortable. Left to their own devices, they do things like
- stay out of the heat.
- limit strenuous activity when it's hot.
- play or lay down in the water.
The problem with these approaches is that time with your best friend becomes really limited since it’s hard to go have fun if they’re not into it.
Reason #2: A dog that is overheated isn’t going to be very energetic. A cool coat can help them feel fresh and eager to compete, hike, or play!
Your dog can’t be their best if they’re overheated.
If you and your dog enjoy competition, exercise, hiking or other more demanding activities, they won’t have as much fun if they’re not comfortable. And if they push themselves to do the activity, they can run the risk of heatstroke. Heatstroke is a real danger, although the risk can be managed. Find out more here.
Dogs want to please us, so they’ll do what we ask of them. Unfortunately, they aren’t very good at self-preservation. In order to keep them safe, they need some help from their people.
Your dog might not be built for the environment they live in
If you have a dog that has a thick, double-layered coat suited for living in Alaska, but he or she is actually living in Florida, they might have some trouble being comfortable. Dogs bred for cold climates often can’t cool off as easily.
However, coat length and thickness are only some of the issues. Dogs that have lots of muscle can’t cool off as easily as leaner dogs. Then there are the brachycephalic dogs. Panting, one of a dog’s natural defenses when overheating, isn’t nearly as effective due to their facial structure.
Ways we can help dogs stay cool
As people have noticed the issues dogs have in staying cool, they've come up with some techniques and products that can help so that dogs can still enjoy their activities with us. You can find products like cooling mats, wading pools, fans, bandanas, and cool coats, to name a few. Each of these comes in several variations and works to differing degrees.
My personal favorite is the cool coat because a dog can wear a cool coat to cool off at the same time as when they're playing, working, or whatever. As with the other products, there are several variations to the cooling coat idea. Whatever method you decide to use, you must find a way to keep your dog cool and comfortable.
If you choose to purchase a cool coat, be sure to check out Made by De. I make each coat custom and guarantee it for the life of the product. And they really work!
