How do you know if your dog needs clothes?

Does your dog need a cozy fleece coat to stay warm, a raincoat to stay dry or a cool coat to prevent overheating? You might be surprised.

DOES your dog needs clothes? You might be surprised. There are many reasons a dog might need clothes.

Dog breeds have been developed for human purposes. In the process, some of them end up without a warm enough coat. We can make that better with a coat.

1) Their own coat isn’t enough to keep them warm. Dogs like chihuahuas are built for warm weather but they often find themselves in cold weather where a coat would be helpful.

2) They have special needs. For example, they have a physical characteristic or limitation. Brachycephalic dogs overheat easily because of their flatter faces, so a cool coat could be beneficial.

Grooming your dog can be quite a chore, especially if they have long flowing “locks” like this Irish Setter. A slinky can help smooth and protect that fur so you don’t need to spend as much time grooming.

3) Grooming is an issue. Dogs with long hair can be pretty messy if they aren’t cared for properly. A dog slinky can help keep that fur smooth, shiny and free of dirt and debris.

As dogs age, they lose muscle mass that kept them warm before. They also develop aches and pains that are relieved by staying warm.

4) They are getting older with aches and pains that need relief. Older dogs are often intolerant of weather extremes, so a little assistance in the form of clothing can make a big difference.

Dogs haven’t always had many options for clothing. However, since the activities they participate in sometimes go better with specific types of clothing, items have been developed to meet these needs.
